The Problem
Workers at Tacomazing Cantina’s food truck cook in confined spaces where high heat, grease fires, and overloaded electrical equipment can pose significant safety risks. In the event of a fire, employees must know how to quickly assess the situation and extinguish the fire, while under pressure.
-
Tacomazing food truck workers do not receive hands-on practice with fire extinguishers. In a fire emergency, they have mere seconds to learn to use an extinguisher to fight a fire.
-
As an instructional designer for Tacomazing, I was tasked to create a printable, quick-reference job aid to be posted next to all food truck fire extinguishers.
The 18 × 24” poster had to be easy to read from a distance and provide clear directions to help employees use the P.A.S.S. method to take action quickly.
I was required to include clear emergency contact information and follow Tacomazing’s style and branding guidelines.
-
I designed a graphic that uses bold colors to draw attention to critical emergency information, a mnemonic device for quick recall, and simple visuals to clearly illustrate the parts of a fire extinguisher and proper use. I chose to use Helvetica font for the emergency information heading, due to its optimal readability. For the remainder of the poster, I adhered to the brand’s style guidelines.
